Cailee Spaeny to star in Pacific Rim 2 alongside John Boyega

Cailee Spaeny Pacific Rim 2

I really didn't think that it would happen, but production on the sequel to Guillermo del Toro's PACIFIC RIM is due to kick off in November. Development on the sequel has gone through its fair share of difficulties, including being shelved altogether at one point, but it's nice to know that we haven't seen the last of del Toro's brand of Kaiju and Jaeger action.

The cast of the upcoming Steven S. DeKnight directed sequel continues to grow and Variety has reported that newcomer Cailee Spaeny is set to star alongside John Boyega. The young actress/singer doesn't have a lot of credits to her name at this point so PACIFIC RIM 2 will likely be her breakout role. Per usual, there's no information on Spaeny's character but they seem to be filling the movie with a much younger cast this time around. PACIFIC RIM 2 also stars Scott Eastwood as well as John Boyega as the son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost. None of the original PACIFIC RIM cast has been confirmed as returning (we do know that Charlie Hunnam won't be back) but Guillermo del Toro has said that "a lot of the cast from the first movie is coming back."

PACIFIC RIM 2 is set for a February 23, 2018 release.
