Dave Franco’s directorial debut The Rental picked up by IFC

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

While people are aware that James Franco has directed some films (like the well-received THE DISASTER ARTIST), what people don't often know is how prolific he is, with almost forty director credits, many of them features. So it makes sense that his little brother Dave Franco (NERVE, 21 JUMP STREET) would wanna give it a shot as well.

The younger Franco has also nabbed an impressive cast for his directorial debut, with Alison Brie and Dan Stevens headlining the dark thriller Franco co-wrote with Joe Swanberg called THE RENTAL. Here's the official synopsis:

In THE RENTAL, two couples embark on a weekend getaway to a seemingly perfect house they’ve booked online. But what begins as a celebratory weekend for the four close friends turns into something far more sinister as secrets they’ve kept from each other are exposed and they realize they may not be alone.

Sounds like a potential good time to me! Especially with that cast (with Jeremy Allen White and Sheila Vand rounding it out). The film also at least looks good as well. Furthermore, Franco is no stranger to starring in thrillers, such as NERVE from a few years ago, so hopefully he can apply what he learned there to his own film.

Meanwhile, THE RENTAL has been picked up by IFC, but no release date has been announced (or firm plans on if it will go straight-to-streaming or wait for theaters to be open again).

So what do you guys think? Sound off below!
