Emilia Clarke finds love in a London wonderland in Last Christmas trailer

Christmas is that wonderful time of year when you can open your heart to everyone and everything…unless you’re Emilia Clarke in the movie LAST CHRISTMAS and you just want to throw the entire season into the Thames. Universal dropped the first trailer for the romantic comedy-drama, in which Clarke’s Kate works year-round at a Christmas store, and while going through her own personal crisis meets Henry Golding’s strapping, goofy Tom, who means to teach her about the beauty of living life to the fullest in a magical city during a magical time. That may be hard to fully enjoy when you’re dressed like an elf half the time, but Kate gets point for giving it all a shot anyway.

Written by Emma Thompson and Bryony Kimmings (with Thompson also taking on a supporting role) and directed by Paul Feig, the movie sports the music of the late pop star George Michael, and while it all seems ripe for a pleasant meet-cute story (sans the bird poop), Feig says it does tackle some more serious issues. “We refer to it as a dramatic romantic comedy,” Feig explained to EW. “It’s got the idea of romance, but also of somebody trying to repair their life — of familial tensions and how a family is falling apart and what it takes to put a family back together and dealing with the aftermath of difficult situations.”

Clarke was seen earlier this year in the final season of GAME OF THRONES, and while she went full dictator and burned everything down, we should all remember that Clarke herself is a bubbly, silly, effortlessly charming person who finally gets to utilize those qualities here. As for Golding, you may not have recognized the name until last year’s CRAZY RICH ASIANS and Feig’s last movie, A SIMPLE FAVOR, but he’s quickly worked his way into audiences hearts and his star is set to rise even faster after this. Overall, the movie looks like a harmless, winter-time rom-com sporting two charming leads, and during this season of giving, gifts and cheer, isn't that all you could really want anyway? Okay, and maybe a new iPad.

Here's the synopsis:

Kate (Emilia Clarke) harumphs around London, a bundle of bad decisions accompanied by the jangle of bells on her shoes, another irritating consequence from her job as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop. Tom (Henry Golding) seems too good to be true when he walks into her life and starts to see through so many of Kate’s barriers. As London transforms into the most wonderful time of the year, nothing should work for these two. But sometimes, you gotta let the snow fall where it may, you gotta listen to your heart … and you gotta have faith.

LAST CHRISTMAS is in theaters November 8.
