Firestarter, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Stephen King, reboot

Up-and-coming actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong is poised to set the lead role of Blunhouse's Firestarter reboot ablaze. Armstrong will play Charlie in the update of Stephen King's classic tale of terror, which hails from Weed Road Pictures and Universal. The role, made famous by Drew Barrymore in the original 1984 feature, is a wicked one. In King's story, Charlie wields the power of pyrokinesis, meaning she can create and control fire with her mind. What happens when the government discovers a child with such an unbelievable ability? They want to harness and weaponize it, of course.

Per IMDB, here's the storyline for Firestarter:

After being experimented on by a secret government entity called The Shop, Andy McGee develops psychic powers and meets the love of his life. Together they have a daughter with a power of her own and The Shop will stop at nothing to get them back.

Firestarter is being directed by Keith Thomas (The Vigil), and the screenplay was adapted by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills, Rectify). Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman are producing, with Martha De Laurentiis – who was an associate producer on the original – executive producing.

Armstrong was born in New York in 2010. Good grief, do I feel old right now or what? Anyway, she's already worked alongside several of Hollywood's brightest, including Julie Taymor, Julianne Moore, Alicia Vikander, Timothy Hutton, Bill Skarsgard, Amanda Seyfried, Milo Ventimiglia, Kevin Costner, Chris Pratt, Scarlett Johansson, Betty Gilpin, and J.K. Simmons, among others. Soon she'll appear in The Tomorrow War with Chris Pratt, and she even has a role in Marvel's Black Widow. She recently wrapped her contribution to Megan Follows's Maternal and is currently on the set of Firestarter. Someone give this kid's casting agent another check because they're putting in work.

Firestarter also stars Zac Efron and Michael Greyeyes.
