The upcoming alien invasion comedy THE WATCH is lining up to be the comedy hit of the summer if all goes well and it’s, y’know, actually hilarious. Thus far, the various trailers for the Akiva Schaffer (HOT ROD) directed pic have impressed, and today we have the first clip from the film, which features an empty Diet Coke can and a full bladder. Do the math.

I think THE WATCH will have some hit or miss comedy moments, but will no doubt feature enough hilarity to outweigh the jokes that fall flat. With a great cast and a high-concept story to boot, THE WATCH has all the ingredients for a summer comedy hit. Let’s hope it hits that mark.
Another bonus to this film is that it carries an R-rating, which can really make all the difference for a comedy like this. Not every single comedy needs to be elevated to that, but most adult comedy works best when it’s lightly censored, rather than buckled down to a PG-13. You don’t go to a movie like this for “church-friendly” comedy.
