First trailer for Suspiria remake conjures an unsettling atmosphere

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The first trailer for the upcoming SUSPIRIA remake from Luca Guadagnino is here, and though the movie will be loaded with buckets of blood and bone-breaking terror you won’t see any of that just yet. Favoring a bleak, unsettling atmosphere, the first trailer showcases Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton in the grim setting that will surely send a tingle up your spine.

The movie is a remake of the 1977 horror classic by Dario Argento, and the movie focuses on a dancer who goes to Germany to become part of a world-renowned dance company. Before long her classmates start disappearing, and she soon discovers that the school has a history of dark deeds and witchcraft.

Some footage for the movie screened at CinemaCon where audience members talked about how grizzly and nerve-wracking it was. Chances are this could be some footage we would see should they ever drop a red-band trailer, which I imagine is required for a movie like this. For now, it seems the only way to market the movie is to go in for the haunting atmospherics, focusing on Guadagnino’s more reserved take on the material which looks ripped straight from the 70s.

SUSPIRIA arrives November 2.
