Adrienne Barbeau returns to the swamp for Swamp Thing series!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

As if you didn't already know, Len Wiseman is directing a new series based on SWAMP THING from a script by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman. The cast includes Andy Bean as biologist Alec Holland and Crystal Reed as CDC Doctor Abby Arcane. But what does the star of director Wes Craven's original SWAMP THING Adrienne Barbeau think of the new series? Turns out she's all for it as today she took to Twitter to share the awesome news with all of us that she has joined the show!

Barbeau writes:

Happy to be headed back to the swamps! #DCComics #SwampThing #JamesWan #DCUNIVERSE

Woo Hoo! Not only do I love Adrienne Barbeau like any self-respecting horror fan, but this tie to Craven's original film has me grinning like a madman right now as I type. This is by far the most excited I have been for this new series. James Wan's involved? Pretty cool. Derek Mears as THE Swamp Thing. Nice. Barbeau's back? BRING IT ON!

Here's the rundown on Craven's SWAMP THING:

On the verge of a breakthrough in his quest to wipe out world hunger, altruistic botanist Dr. Alec Holland (Ray Wise) is placed under the protection of special government agent Alice Cable (Adrienne Barbeau). Mad outlaw scientist Anton Arcane (Louis Jourdan) wants to steal Holland's research for his own nefarious ends, but an unforeseen accident during the heist turns Holland into the Swamp Thing, an enormous plant-like creature that fights back against Arcane's henchmen to save Cable.

Here's the rundown for the new series:

Abby Arcane investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.

Bean and Reed's co-stars include Maria Sten, Jeryl Prescott, Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen, Will Patton, Henderson Wade, Ian Ziering, and Kevin Durand, with Derek Mears as Swamp Thing himself. James Wan's company Atomic Monster is producing Swamp Thing in association with Warner Bros. Television. Wan, Wiseman, Verheiden, and Dauberman also serve as executive producers on the series with Michael Clear. Rob Hackett is co-producer. Swamp Thing will be released through the DC Universe streaming service sometime next year, possibly on May 10th
