As if you needed another reason to be excited for Amazon Studios' upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s THE DARK TOWER, today we have word that Michael Rooker has been cast in the currently filming the pilot episode on location in Croatia. While there isn't currently word on just who Rooker will be playing, we do know that he is joing a cast that currently includes Sam Strike as Roland Deschain, aka The Gunslinger, and Jasper Pääkkönen as The Man in Black, also known as Randall Flagg.

This isn't Michael Rooker's first Stephen King project as the man also starred in George A. Romero's adaptation of THE DARK HALF (see below) as Sheriff Alan Pangborn. Anyhow, back to the series a hand, the first season of the show is said to consist of a total of 13 episodes and it will take place many years before the events depicted in the Idris Elba / Matthew McConaughey feature and will

focus on Roland Deschain’s (Strike) origin story – how he first became a gunslinger and got his guns, his first conflict with the man in black, his first love and his first mission as a gunslinger.

The new take on King's classic book series is being developed by Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead), Akiva Goldsman (Titans, Star Trek: Discovery) and Stephen King himself. The Dark Tower is scheduled for release in 2020. This new take on King's multi-novel series which has been in development at Amazon for almost a year and is said to be independent of the film and is meant to be a more faithful retelling of the book.
