Black Forest Film Group has acquired the spec script BLACK RIVER, a ghostly thriller from Ransom Riggs, the author of New York Times bestseller “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” which might end up being Tim Burton’s next film.

BLACK RIVER follows a small-town girl who has been haunted by a dead girl’s spirit ever since her own near-fatal accident. When she goes off to college and her friends begin to die, she must uncover the dark secret of the dead girl’s fate.

Black Forest’s founding partners Mark Morgan, Kami Garcia, E. Thompson and Brett Hudson will produce BLACK RIVER, which Riggs will co-exec produce.

No timetable has been set for BLACK RIVER’s production, nor has a director been hired yet. We’ll keep you in the loop regarding all these developments as the project moves forward.
