Just a quick tidbit for you film score lovers out there: One of the most prolific composers working today in film, Michael Giacchino, has signed on to provide the music for Matt Reeves’ DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Giacchino made the announcement himself via Twitter; it’ll be his second collaboration with Reeves after LET ME IN.

Anyone who has seen a large-scale movie in the theater within the past 10 years or so has certainly heard Giacchino’s work. His filmography includes SUPER 8, STAR TREK, STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, JOHN CARTER, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 3 + 4, THE INCREDIBLES and UP, for which he won an Oscar. He also provided “Lost” and “Fringe” with their memorable tunes and worked on a myraid of video games, including Medal of Honor and Call of Duty.

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is currently shooting in Vancouver; it stars Andy Serkis, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Judy Greer and Kodi Smit-McPhee. It opens on May 23, 2014.
