Drew Barrymore set to helm uplifting apocalypse film The End for Warner Bros.

Drew Barrymore, director? Okie dokie then!

THR is running a story that has Ms. Barrymore in talks with Warner Bros. to helm an uplifting apocalyptic picture called, wait for it, THE END. Word is the flick will buck the dour, depressing end of the world scenario and instead offer a multi-stranded tale about various people’s last day on Earth. It’s meant to be humanistic rather than a downer, a meditation not on death but on life. Aron Eli Coleite wrote the script.

Among the storylines is a 60-something radio personality in London intent on broadcasting until the end, a father trying to make it through the chaos in Tokyo to reach his wife and baby, and a teenage couple in the American Midwest being pulled in different directions by their families.

So not quite horror, but certainly in the vein of shite like CONTAGION, HEREAFTER, MELANCHOLIA etc. Always tough pics to pull off, and when done well, tough to swallow. Perhaps Barrymore sucked enough tips (wait…) out of directors over the years to give us something great.

What do you think?
