Giselle Itie, the lovely Mexican/Brazilian actress best known to us as Sandra in THE EXPENDABLES will take the lead in CALEUCHE, a supernatural shocker from Chilean director Jorge Olguin.

Itie plays a terminally ill marine biologist, based in Boston, who keep a promise to her father to visit the island of her ancestors, where she discovers her family’s links to a ghost ship, Caleuche.

The film will also star Catalina Saavedra and Marcelo Alonso; ChileFilms and Olguin Films are co-producing the $2 million movie, which will shoot in Chile’s capital, Santiago.

A little more background on the CALEUCHE myth, via Wikipedia: According to legend, the Caleuche is a large ghost ship sailing the seas around Chiloé at night; and it is a being who is conscious. It appears as a beautiful and bright sailing ship, always full of lights and with the sounds of a party onboard, but quickly disappears again, or hiding navigating underwater.
The myths claim it is crewed by the drowned, who are brought to the ship by three Chilote mythological figures, two sisters: the sirena chilota (a type of mermaid) and the Pincoya and their brother the Pincoy. Once aboard, the dead can resume an existence as if they were alive again.

Sounds like an ideal set-up for a spooky pic; we’ll give you more info as we get it.
