German director Dennis Gansel to helm shut-in creature feature Grim Night

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Around last Halloween, Mr. Pacheco told y’all about Universal shacking up with Bryan Bertino to helm a shut-in creature feature called GRIM NIGHT. Alas, there’s been a shakeup…

Variety has it that German director Dennis Gansel (BEFORE THE FALL, THE WAVE) will now realize GRIM NIGHT for the studio. Bertino will still produce, doing so with Marc Platt and Adrienne Biddle of Unbroken Pictures. Anikah McLaren will oversee for Universal.

Based on the original script and short film by Brandon Bestenheider and Allen Bey:

The film is set in a world where people lock themselves indoors one night a year for fear of random attacks from creatures known as the Grims.

From our October post:

Grim Night’s conceit is that one night every year, strange creatures attack Earth and kill thousands, targeting different place with no one knowing why. The story centers on a family in small town America that gets attacked and has to defend themselves.

Seems swell, but will it go GREMLINS light or CRITTERS hard? I hope the latter!
