Halloween Kills: John Carpenter says it’s likely going to streaming

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

In a candid interview with NME, ostensibly about his upcoming studio album Lost Themes III: Alive After Death, influential cult filmmaker John Carpenter lamented the death of theaters, and also said that Halloween Kills – of which he's an executive producer, and was the director of the original 1978 film – could possibly go straight-to-streaming.

Here's the pertinent quote:

Sure. Halloween may be shared that way [streaming] because theatres are dead. It’s just the reality right now. And it’s a tragedy, but it’s true. We just have to face it. The studio did contact David [Gordon Green, director of Halloween Kills] and I, and they had us put off the new one by a year in the hope that things got better. So we’re still hoping it will get better.

Now, of course, as Carpenter also said, "the studio…had us put off the new one by a year in the hope that things got better" , so the film is still currently on track for a theatrical release, but it seems obvious talks have been happening if a wide theatrical release remains an impossibility. Here's also hoping it will get better.

Meanwhile, Halloween Kills is currently scheduled to stalk in theaters October 15th…but we'll keep you updated if there are any further changes or delays.

So what do you guys think? You optimistic about the return of theaters? If not, still willing to watch this streaming? Either way, sound off below!
