Is World War Z the first film in an epic trilogy?

We’ve all read about the behind-the-scenes drama on WORLD WAR Z. Reshoots, fights, release date changes, ballooning budgets, etc. But all that matters not if the movie turns out to be good, and I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks it looks, at the very least, fun. And if it indeed turns out to be good and a hit, then we’ll be seeing much more rolling-zombie action.

WORLD WAR Z has made the cover of the new Entertainment Weekly, as you can see from the image to the right. The article digs deep into the turmoil that went into making the film, but interestingly enough, it’s revealed that star Brad Pitt and director Marc Forster hope to turn the adaptation of Max Brooks’ best-selling book into a franchise. To quote EW: “If it does well, there are plans to turn it into a trilogy.”

Those are lofty plans for a movie that underwent multiple late-stage rewrites and at least five weeks of reshoots, appearing for all the world like a surefire disaster. (Remember that report that said the rough cut was only 52 minutes long?) Again, if the movie turns out to be solid, all that chaos will just seem like a bad dream for those involved; but will those key players want to return for an encore?

WORLD WAR Z opens on June 21st.
