Jared Leto cast as Morbius the Living Vampire!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Looks like Jared Leto is diving back into the comic-adaptations pool as he will not only be continuing to play his SUICIDE SQUAD version of The Joker in an all-new spin-off film, but he has now signed on to star in Sony's upcoming big screen adaptation of MORBIUS: THE LIVING VAMPIRE.

The new film is all set to be part of Sony's dark take on SPIDER-MAN villains such as VENOM starring Tom Hardy, and Scandinavian filmmaker Daniel Espinosa (SAFE HOUSE, LIFE) will helm the film. The script is currently being penned by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who created Netflix’s LOST IN SPACE reboot series. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce with Lucas Foster. Sony executive Palak Patel will oversee for the studio.

The project is, of course, based on antihero Morbius the Living Vampire who is:

Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist who suffered from a rare blood disease and attempted to cure himself to disastrous results. Instead of being cured, he became afflicted with a condition that was a form of vampirism — the thirst for blood, along with fangs and super strength — and fought Spider-Man. Over time, however, he became a slightly heroic figure in his own right and even headlined his own comic book titles.

It was just earlier today that we let you guys know that Todd McFarlane is hoping Sony will snatch up the rights to his upcoming Blumhouse adaptation of SPAWN so he can go head-to-head with VENOM. And here's hoping that happens so MORBIUS can get in on the fun as well! We'll let you know when we hear more!

Until then, remember that Sony's VENOM will be hitting screens October 5th. Scripted by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, and Kelly Marcel, the film stars Hardy plays Eddie Brock, the journalist who gets coated in the Venom symbiote. His co-stars include Michelle Williams as Eddie's wife Annie Weying, Riz Ahmed as the symbiote-studying Dr. Carlton Drake, Jenny Slate as a scientist, Woody Harrelson as "a henchman of sorts", and Reid Scott as a mystery character.
