2013 looks like it will be a solid year for the genre! I personally can’t wait for Pacific Rim, The Purge, Only God Forgives, The Tomb, The Lords of Salem, Ender’s Game, Carrie, The Conjuring, Riddick, Evil Dead, Stoker, Elysium… among others! So in order to keep tabs on what’s coming out, I put together this extensive list of this year’s AITH friendly releases. So ya wanna know what you’re in for genre wise and when? Tap this bad-boy! NOTE: These are USA release dates. NOTE 2: It’s gonna be a busy “reviewing” year for this a-hole! Yowzer!

Paranormal Activity 5 – October 25, 2013

No official pics or synopsis yet. So I assume it will be about: A camera’s on, 10 seconds of dead time, something makes a loud noise, falls or swipes by the camera, rinse and repeat. NOTE: No pics available. This is a still of a cow.

Ender’s Game – November 1, 2013

In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.

Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

Horns – No US release yet.

HORNS is about a decent enough young man named Ignatius Perrish, a guy who has always tried to do the right thing, only to see his whole life abruptly torn away from him. His girlfriend, the person he loves more than anyone in the world, is killed, and although he’s never charged with the murder, everyone, including his family and friends, believe Ig is responsible. Then one night Ig goes out drunk to rage and curse God, and when he wakes, he discovers he’s grown a pair of horns, and that people have a sudden compulsion to confess their darkest secrets and ugliest impulses to him. It isn’t long before Ig turns his terrible new powers to finding the man who killed his beloved, and taking his revenge.

I, Frankenstein – September 13, 2013

I, FRANKENSTEIN is a modern-day epic: Frankenstein’s creature, ADAM, has survived to present day due to a genetic quirk in his creation. Making his way to a dark, gothic metropolis, he finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For – October 4, 2013

Dwight McCarthy is called by his former lover, Ava Lord, who wants his help to escape her abusive husband, billionaire Damien Lord. However, Dwight soon learns that Ava’s true intentions are much sinister than they appear. NOTE: No pics available. This is a still from Sin City.

Oldboy – October 11, 2013

Follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

Haunt – October 11, 2013

Story follows the son (Gilbertson) of a family recently moved into a new house with a dark past who begins a sexual relationship with the girl next door (Liberato) that prompts the opening of a terrifying alternate reality of the house. Weaver will play a former resident of the house who has suffered a terrible family tragedy.

Carrie – October 18, 2013.

CARRIE, from director Kimberly Peirce, is a reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

The Tomb – September 27, 2013.

The film follows Ray Breslin (Stallone), the world’s foremost authority on structural security. He’s analyzed nearly every high security prison. After being framed by persons unknown, all of Breslin’s ingenuity and expertise are about to be put to work in the most challenging test he’s ever faced: escaping from a high-tech prison facility that’s design is based on his own protocols.

Riddick – September 6, 2013

In the film, the infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Satanic – August 30, 2013

The story follows a group of college students who are attacked in their dormitory over Thanksgiving break. One girl must lead her friends on a mission of survival and discover the identity of their mysterious attackers.

You’re Next – August 23, 2013

In the film, while on a getaway, the Davidson family comes under attack. When Crispian Davidson (A.J. Bowen) brings his new girlfriend (Sharni Vinson) along to celebrate his parent’s wedding anniversary, the family’s evening together is shattered when a gang of mysterious killers begin to hunt the family down with brutal precision. Unfortunately for the killers however, one of the victims harbors a secret talent for fighting back.

Elysium – August 9, 2013

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

The Conjuring – July 19, 2013

Pacific Rim – July 12, 2013

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. World War Z – June 21, 2013

After Earth – June 7, 2013

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

The Purge – May 31, 2013

If on one night every year, you could commit any crime without facing consequences, what would you do? Lords of Salem – April 26, 2013

Heidi, a blonde rock chick, DJs at a local radio station and, together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster), forms part of the “Big H Radio Team”. A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, “a gift from the Lords”. She assumes it’s a rock band on a mission to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords’ record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma. Later Whitey plays the Lords’ record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with listeners.The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H Team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon Heidi and her cohorts find that the gig is far from the rock spectacle they’re expecting: The original Lords of Salem are returning, and they’re out for BLOOD.

Oblivion – April 19, 2013

One of the few remaining drone repairmen assigned to Earth, its surface devastated after decades of war with the alien Scavs, discovers a crashed spacecraft with contents that bring into question everything he believed about the war, and may even put the fate of mankind in his hands.

Evil Dead – April 12, 2013

Jane Levy (below), Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore star: In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Jurassic Park 3D – April 5, 2013

A wealthy man has created an island amusement park filled with dinosaurs cloned from fossilized DNA. When he invites experts to endorse it, nature takes over.

The Last Exorcism: Part II – March 1, 2013

Dark Skies – February 22, 2013

Spiders 3D – February 8, 2013

The Mayor of Augsburg recruits them to rid the town and nearby forests of an evil sorceress (Janssen) who is planning to sacrifice many local children at the witches’ gathering during the upcoming ‘Blood Moon’ night in two days time. To make things worse, the duo also has to deal with the brutal Sheriff Berringer (Peter Stormare) who has taken power in Augsburg and conducts a very indiscriminate witch-hunt of his own.

Mama – January 18, 2013

Five years ago, sisters Victoria and Lilly vanished from their suburban neighborhood without a trace. Since then, their Uncle Lucas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his girlfriend, Annabel (Jessica Chastain), have been madly searching for them.
