Mads Mikkelsen hopeful Hannibal Season 4 will happen

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

I think it's safe to say that one of the most beloved horror TV shows of our time (or all time) is Bryan Fuller's adaptation of Thomas Harris' HANNIBAL. It's basically the BREAKING BAD of the horror TV community. But as much love as the show gathered across its three seasons, ultimately, NBC canceled HANNIBAL after three seasons because of low ratings. Since then there have been talks of a fourth season based on THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS being shopped around town, and today we have confirmation via the Cannibal himself Mads Mikkelsen that he's still hopeful it will happen.

Yeah, I think there’s always new hope. I haven’t heard anything specific. I know Bryan is still working on some ideas where we can find a new home for this. I also have a strong feeling that everybody who was involved in it would gladly pick up the glove again if that happens. I don’t know where they looked. That is above my paycheck, but I know they’ve been talking to different studios.

He continues:

I know that [Fuller] was working to get the rights to Silence of the Lambs so he could get in there and use some of those characters for his own universe. I have a hunch that might be where we’re going.

Personally, I would love to see a new season of HANNIBAL based on THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. I'm currently re-reading Harris' HANNIBAL novel and so I'm kind of on a Hannibal the Cannibal kick this past week. Here's hoping someone like Netflix picks up the series and lets the powers that be behind-the-scenes be as grizzly as possible with their blood, boobs, and gore galore. And their "food-porn" as well. Fingers crossed.

Here's the series' synopsis:

Gifted criminal profiler Will Graham has a unique way of thinking that allows him to empathize with anyone, including psychopaths. But while helping the FBI pursue a particularly complicated serial killer, he decides he could use some help and enlists the brilliant psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter. The two form a partnership and it seems that there is no villain they can't catch together, but Lecter harbors a dark secret. His own brilliant mind has gone to the dark side and he has more in common with the criminals they hunt than Will could possibly imagine.

Based on characters from RED DRAGON by Thomas Harris, the series was developed by Bryan Fuller and starred Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, Caroline Dhavernas, Hettienne Park, Laurence Fishburne, Scott Thompson, Aaron Abrams, and Gillian Anderson. We'll let you know when we hear more about this possible HANNIBAL revival one way or the other. Until then make sure to hit us up and let us know how many people you would eat for the chance to see the fourth season of HANNIBAL based on THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS below!
