Ron Perlman joins Milla Jovovich in Monster Hunter

Hellboy Ron Perlman

Milla Jovovich recently finished working on the reboot of HELLBOY, where she plays the villain opposite new Hellboy David Harbour. On her next film she'll be working with the original Hellboy, as Ron Perlman has signed on to join her in the cast of the Capcom video game adaptation MONSTER HUNTER.

The film is being written and directed by Jovovich's husband Paul W.S. Anderson, who also built the RESIDENT EVIL video game adaptation series around her.

MONSTER HUNTER games allow players to take on the role of

a Hunter, slaying or trapping large monsters across various landscapes as part of quests given to them by the locals. As part of its core gameplay loop, players use loot gained from slaying monsters, gathering resources, and quest rewards to craft improved weapons, armor, and other items that allows them to face more powerful monsters.

Jovovich is playing a character named Artemis in the film. Perlman's character is Admiral, the leader of the Hunter's Crew. Also in the cast is rapper / ANT-MAN co-star T.I. Harris, who will be playing a sniper named Link.

Anderson is producing the film with Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer. Screen Gems will be distributing MONSTER HUNTER in the U.S., while Sony Pictures Releasing International will be distributing it in select international territories.

Having secured a budget in the range of $60 million, MONSTER HUNTER is scheduled to begin filming in South Africa next month.

I've never played a MONSTER HUNTER game, but a movie that promises to have Jovovich, Perlman, and T.I. hunting monsters has my attention. Even though I didn't like what Anderson did with the RESIDENT EVIL series.
