Screenwriters talk wholly original Zombieland 2

Like many of you guys out there, I was a big fan of the 2009 zombie-comedy ZOMBIELAND. And like many of the rest of you guys out there, I'm currently counting down the days until I can lay my eyes on the upcoming sequel. But what can we expect to see come ZOMBIELAND 2? Well, DEADPOOL and ZOMBIELAND screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick just talked to Slash Film about just that, telling the site:

We’re shooting that in January and can’t wipe the smile off our faces. It’s the thing that Rhett and I as a team got our start on. It made us the screenwriters that we’ve become. That cast and the gang that’s back together with Ruben and our producer Gavin [Polone], the studio, we’re super, super excited about it. It’s pretty special and will come out basically 10 years from the first so it’s the perfect 10-year anniversary present I think.

If you pay really close attention, you might see a couple little bits [from the failed TV pilot]. But mostly it’s all not seen before and exciting.

Wernick also then went on to call the sequel “wholly original.” Let's hope so. I don't mean to be a jerk here, but after ten years, I hope ZOMBIELAND 2 isn't just a rehash of old jokes from the first flick. I have faith. There isn't currently word on just what the synopsis to this sequel is, but until we know, here's the rundown on the first flick for those of you that may have forgotten:

After a virus turns most people into zombies, the world's surviving humans remain locked in an ongoing battle against the hungry undead. Four survivors -- Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) and his cohorts Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) -- abide by a list of survival rules and zombie-killing strategies as they make their way toward a rumored safe haven in Los Angeles.

Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin will return with Ruben Fleischer directing again. With filming in January, it is possible ZOMBIELAND 2 could be ready for release by October of 2019, 10 years after the original premiered. How excited are you for ZOMBIELAND 2? Let us know below!
