Sitges Phonetastic Mobile Film Festival pushes the limits of fantastic filmmaking

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Since 1971 Sitges has been the first name in fantastic film festivals, hosting works of David Cronenberg, Quentin Tarantino, Dario Argento, David Lynch and many more in a competitive capacity. The Sitges Film Festival represents the best of the best in genre filmmaking and now they’re pushing the genre even farther with the Sitges Phonetastic Mobile Film Festival.

The festival is partnering with Mobile World Capitol Barcelona for ”an initiative for the development of mobile devices – smartphones and tablets – as a film production tool and an audiovisual distribution platform.” In effort to give this burgeoning movie making format a push, ”MWCapital and the Sitges Festival will be organizing conferences and workshops on audiovisual production via mobile devices” that are to be ”run by film directors and carried out during the Summer Week, the week of mobile-related cultural activities organized each summer as a part of the Mobile World Festival, one of MWCapital’s pillars.”

Do you think you have a mobile horror masterpiece in you? If so then you could be eligible to rack up awards from the Sitges Phonetastic Mobile Film Festival Awards which will be announced during the main festival itself. Unfortunately, the registration website for all competitive filmmakers has yet to be completed, so stay on the lookout for future announcements. For more information check out the Sitges’ official site. Otherwise, what are you waiting for? Grab that iPhone and make with the mobile movies!
