Tom Cruise’s Yukikaze moving forward with Dan Mazeau to adapt

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Back in April we told you about YUKIKAZE, an adaptation of a series of successful sci-fi novels from Chohei Kambayashi that Warner Brothers and 3 Arts had set up for Tom Cruise to star in and would find the actor taking on another alien menace. At the time of our original story no writer or director was in place but today Variety is reporting that WRATH OF THE TITANS scribe Dan Mazeau has come onboard the project to adapt.

The story for YUKIKAZE originates with a hyper-dimensional passageway appearing over Antarctica, allowing fighters from an alien force to attempt a terrestrial invasion — resulting in a united humanity fending off the attack and going on the offensive to eliminate the enemy bases.

The project re-teams Cruise with 3 Arts' Eric Stoff, Tom Lassally and Viz Media's Jason Hoffs following their work on the upcoming EDGE OF TOMORROW (formerly ALL YOU NEED IS KILL), another Warner Bros. sci-fi project based on Japanese source material. And like ALL YOU NEED IS KILL, we're thinking YUKIKAZE will probably undergo a title change.

Mazeau has also been tied to the screenwriting duties on CLASH OF THE TITANS 3 and the adaptation of DC Comics hero THE FLASH.

We'll keep you posted on news regarding YUKIKAZE as it comes in.
