Turbo Kid directors cast Verchere, Sommer, Skovbye, more for Summer of ’84

It was exactly two months ago when we heard that TURBO KID directors François Simard, Anouk Whissell and Yoann-Karl Whissell (a.k.a. RKSS) would be directing the "REAR WINDOW with an '80s teenager twist" project SUMMER OF '84, and now cameras are already rolling on the project.

Filming started today in Vancouver, and coinciding with the production start the names of several cast members have been revealed.

SUMMER OF '84 will star Graham Verchere as a

15-year old character who spends his summer investigating his police officer neighbor, convinced he is the local serial killer all over the news.

The film is said to explore "the idea that every serial killer lives next door to someone." True (and scary) enough.

Verchere is joined in the cast by Rich Sommer as the murder suspect police officer, Tiera Skovbye (pictured above) as another neighbor, Judah Lewis, Caleb Emery, and Cory Gruter-Andrew.

Written by Matt Leslie and Stephen J. Smith, the film is being produced by Leslie, Jameson Parker, Shawn Williamson, and Cody Zwieg.

From REAR WINDOW to FRIGHT NIGHT to DISTURBIA, this "my neighbor is a killer" set-up has worked out quite well for directors in the past, so here's hoping RKSS will have similar success with SUMMER OF '84. The fact that it's a 1980s period piece has me much more interested than I might be otherwise – filmmakers can always draw me in by adding a touch of the '80s.
