Universal Monsters coolness: Beautiful Mondo art and new collectible toys!

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

With the recent release of Universal’s Classic Monsters Blu-ray collection, it’s obvious that now is the time to rediscover those unforgettable films and characters – or discover them for the first time if you haven’t been so fortunate in the past. So here are a handful of treats further celebrating Universal’s golden age of monsters.

Famed poster designer and artist Drew Struzan has created a handful of beautiful portraits of Universal’s iconic monsters for a new exhibition from Mondo, Alamo Drafthouse’s collectible art division. Check out his portraits (via the L.A. Times) of The Mummy, Frankenstein’s Monster and The Wolf Man below. In addition, you’ll find Ken Taylor’s Creature from the Black Lagoon, Francesco Francavilla’s The Invisible Man, and Laurent Durieux’s The Mummy. Safe to say I’d be a happy critter to own any of these lovely prints.

Also, for you toy collectors, the third series of Universal Monsters 7-inch action figures is in comic shops and Toys “R” Us stores now, and 2-inch Minimates are currently making their way to stores across the land. Check out some fun pics of the toys below the art (you’ll see the Invisible Man, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Phantom of the Opera and the mutant from This Island Earth) and head to a Toys R Us near you to nab them for yourself! (I sure as hell am.)

Find out more about the toys over HERE.

If you’re lucky enough to be in Austin for the Mondo art exhibition, it runs from OCTOBER 19 – NOVEMBER 10. For more info, check out the L.A. Times’ article about it.
