Universal taps Juliet Snowden & Stiles White to write & direct Ouija

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Since losing McG as director and slashing its budget by 95% this past March, Universal has tapped a new writing/directing team to helm a low-budget adaptation of Hasbro’s OUIJA

Variety has it that Juliet Snowden and Stiles White (seen right) have been hired by the studio to write and direct OUIJA. Michael Bay will still produce, although Jason Blum, the master of low-budget/high-yield high concepts, has been brought in to work his lucrative magic.

Remember, before Universal cut the resources, the movie was being imagined as a family oriented movie in the vein of THE MUMMY or INDIANA JONES. Obviously, such a flick can’t be made for a mere few million. Hence the new writing/directing team.

Speaking of, Snowden and White recently wrote THE POSSESSION for Ole Bornedal and Sam Raimi. They also penned KNOWING for Alex Proyas, and have been rumored to be attached to the long-gestating POLTERGEIST remake. They certainly seem qualified, no? But on a small budget? Always a tricky proposition.
