Jake Gyllenhaal has another action movie on his slate as he’s set to star in Cut and Run, a heist thriller that follows a group of thieves who use high-powered speed boats to rob super-yachts. Unfortunately, one heist takes a turn when they wind up stealing the wrong thing from the wrong group of people. Ain’t that always the case.

Cut and Run was written by John Glenn (Eagle Eye) with New Republic Pictures winning the rights to the spec script after a bidding war. In addition to starring in the heist movie, Jake Gyllenhaal will also produce the film through his production company Nine Stories Productions. It’s not known who Gyllenhaal would be playing in Cut and Run, but it’s probably a good bet that he’ll be playing the leader of the super-yacht thieves.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s next gig will find him joining forces with Guy Ritchie for an Afghan war movie. Gyllenhaal will play Sergeant John Kinley, who is on his last tour of duty. He’s tasked with surveying the region and is teamed up with Ahmed, a local interpreter, but when their unit is ambushed on patrol, Kinley and Ahmed are the only survivors. “With enemy combatants in pursuit, Ahmed risks his own life to carry an injured Kinley across miles of grueling terrain to safety,” reads the official description. “Back on US soil, Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family were not given passage to America as promised. Determined to protect his friend and repay his debt, Kinley returns to the warzone to retrieve Ahmed and his family before the local militias reach them first.“ The actor is also in talks to star in a Road House remake.

Jake Gyllenhaal will next be seen starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Eiza González in Michael Bay’s Ambulance. Gyllenhaal plays a life-long criminal who talks his adoptive brother into taking part in a multi-million dollar bank heist. When the robbery goes wrong after an LAPD officer is shot, the brothers are on the run in an ambulance along with an EMT and the officer they shot as their hostages. Ambulance is set to hit theaters on April 8, 2022.
