Kit Harington lights the fuse in trailer for HBO’s Gunpowder

When you think of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, you typically think of Guy Fawkes, but it was in fact Robert Catesby who masterminded the plot to blow up the House of Lords, and thus King James I, during the State Opening of Parliament. Gunpowder, a three-part series which aired will air on HBO next month, will dive into the events which lead to the plot and stars Kit Harington as Robert Catesby. In an interesting twist, Harington is actually a direct descendant of his character and the actor told BBC Newsbeat that he "always knew the connection would be quite a good one to promote [the show] with." The series already aired on BBC One last month, but with its HBO premiere on the horizon, a fresh trailer has been released to get you in the plotting mood.

Looks pretty damn good, and it's fun to see Kit Harington outside of his Game of Thrones role, although he still finds plenty of time to flash that trademarked scowl. Also starring Peter Mullan as Henry Garnet, Mark Gatiss as Sir Robert Cecil, Liv Tyler as Anne Vaux, Edward Holcroft as Thomas Wintour, and Tom Cullen as Guy Fawkes, Gunpowder will hit HBO on December 18, 2017.
