Flip the script
In the time-honored tradition of films like What Women Want and Switch, Sasha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike star in a new comedy from Netflix that explores what gender roles mean in the world. The streamer has just released the trailer for Ladies First. Thea Sharrock (The Beautiful Game, Wicked Little Letters, Me Before You) directs the film from a screenplay by Natalie Krinsky (The Broken Hearts Gallery), Cinco Paul (Despicable Me) and Katie Silberman (Set It Up). The new film is an adaptation based on the French film I Am Not an Easy Man from writer-director Eléonore Pourriat.
The story details
The official Netflix plot description reads,
“High-powered exec Damien Sachs (Baron Cohen) has it all — money, power, and a never-ending stream of casual flings — and he’s not afraid to rub it in everyone’s faces. But as he prepares to take over as CEO at a ritzy ad agency, his life is suddenly turned upside-down when he wakes up in his personal worst nightmare: a parallel world dominated by women. He now finds himself going head-to-head with the fierce and fearless Alex Fox (Pike), who’d been one of his underappreciated employees in the dimension he unwittingly left behind. With the rules of engagement changed and Alex at the top of her game, the two battle it out for the top job. Finally, Damien sees what life is like when the script is flipped.”
The cast for the film includes Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, The Trial of the Chicago 7), Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, I Care a Lot), Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Gosford Park), Emily Mortimer (Paddington in Peru, Noah Baumbach’s currently untitled next film), Charles Dance (The Crown, Game of Thrones), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve, True Detective), Tom Davis (Wonka, Paddington 2), Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You, Genius: MLK/X), Kathryn Hunter, Kadiff Kirwan (Slow Horses, This Is Going To Hurt) and Bill Paterson.
Krinsky and Nicky Kentish Barnes are on board as executive producers on the film, while Liza Chasin, Eleonore Dailly, and Edouard de Lachomette are the credited producers.
