The Last of Us Part II finally gets official release date

Scheduling releases for games (as well as for movies and television) has been deeply in-flux recently – for obvious reasons. One of the most anticipated releases to be lost in the shuffle was the sequel to the popular PS4 survival-horror game THE LAST OF US. First it was to be released in February, then May, and now it's got an official release date vis-a-vis the official Playstation Blog: June 19th, 2020. Which honestly seems a lot sooner than I expected (not that I'm complaining)!

Here's the full statement from Head of Worldwide Studios, SIE Herman Hulst, who also reveals the release of the game GHOST OF TSUSHIMA:

As our teams at Sony Interactive Entertainment and Worldwide Studios approach development milestones and confront a world changed by COVID-19, we find ourselves having to adapt to today’s ever-changing environment. Amidst some disruptions to our working styles, we wanted to provide an update to PlayStation gamers who are eager to learn when our next exclusive titles will arrive to PlayStation 4.

As we begin to see an ease in the global distribution environment, I am pleased to confirm that The Last of Us Part II will arrive on June 19. And Ghost of Tsushima will follow on July 17.

I want to personally congratulate and thank both the teams at Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions on their achievements, as we know it’s not an easy feat to reach the finish line under these circumstances. Both teams have worked hard to deliver world-class experiences, and we can’t wait to see what you think of them when they release in just a few short months.

And finally, I want to thank the PlayStation Community for their continuous support and patience.

Meanwhile, the original LAST OF US is

a 2013 action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Players control Joel, a smuggler tasked with escorting a teenage girl, Ellie, across a post-apocalyptic United States. The Last of Us is played from a third-person perspective.

No word exactly what the sequel's story will be, but it will presumably begin where the first one left off (though trailers show there'll also be extensive flashbacks). And this time it looks like you're playing as Ellie!
