Legions: XYZ Films to release Argentine horror movie in North America

XYZ Films has picked up the North American distribution rights to the Argentine horror movie Legions, with the plan to release it sometime in late 2022. Directed by Fabian Forte, Legions finds that

a powerful sorcerer, Antonio, has been locked away in an asylum, and wastes away in his imprisonment as evil, demonic forces take control of Argentina. If Antonio can escape the psychiatric hospital, and find his daughter, Helena, their combined strength could save Argentina, but Helena has forgotten her powers. Antonio must reteach her the ways of magic and be humanity’s last hope against this ancient evil.

The film stars Germán De Silva and Lorena Vega. It was produced by Javier Diaz.

XYZ’s EVP of US Distribution, James Emanuel Shapiro, told Deadline, “I love Legions! It is filled with amazing practical effects and loads of gore! It’s also empowered by Argentina’s history and culture and is a testament to the greatness of Latin American horror. I can’t wait for audiences to see Fabian’s latest epic.

XYZ acquired the Legions rights from FilmSharks. That company’s CEO Guido Rud said, “We are truly delighted to release one of our best genre gems with one of the best US distribution houses.

Movies previously produced and/or released by XYZ Films include The Raid, The Raid 2, Life After Beth, Tusk, Yoga Hosers, Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead, The Invitation, I Don’t Feel At Home in this World Anymore, XX, The Void, Brawl in Cell Block 99, I Kill Giants, The Cleanse, Mandy, Apostle, The Night Comes for Us, Anna and the Apocalypse, Color Out of Space, Come to Daddy, Prisoners of the Ghostland, and many more. Forte has directed Dead Man Tells His Own Tale, La corporación, Socios por accidente 1 and 2, Cantores em Guerra, and the mini-series Limbo. Deadline notes that Forte was also an assistant director on the 2017 horror film Terrified.

Legions sounds interesting to me, and I like the image from the film that can be seen at the bottom of this article. I’ll probably be checking it out. Are you looking forward to Legions? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
