Malcolm & Marie: Zendaya stars in trailer for upcoming Netflix drama

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Netflix on Friday released a truly intense trailer for the romantic drama Malcolm & Marie. My advice? Grab yourself a hand towel because you are definitely going to dab your forehead after watching this one, folks.

Starring Zendaya (Euphoria) and John David Washington (BlackKklansmanTenet), Malcolm & Marie follows a filmmaker (Washington) and his girlfriend (Zendaya) return home following a celebratory movie premiere as he awaits what’s sure to be an imminent critical and financial success. The evening suddenly takes a turn as revelations about their relationships begin to surface, testing the strength of their love. The trailer states that this is not a love story, but I'll be damned if this promo isn't giving off plenty of steam heat as both characters navigate their affections for one another.

Directed and written by Sam Levinson (Euphoria), Malcolm & Marie was shot on 35mm with a small crew during the COVID-19 pandemic. Netflix snagged the rights to screen the black-and-white war of hearts last September, after shelling out an estimated $30 million for the pic. Working with cinematographer Marcell Rev, Levinson creates a film of rare originality; an ode to the great Hollywood romances as well as a heartfelt expression of faith in the medium's future.

Malcolm & Marie will premiere on Netflix on February 5, 2021.
