Mission: Impossible 7 & 8 no longer filming back-to-back

Mission: Impossible, Tom Cruise, Christopher McQuarrie

With filming for Mission: Impossible 7 set to wrap imminently, Paramount has declared that shooting for the sequel will be postponed. While the pandemic is almost always the culprit for such delays, sources say that a shift in Paramount's release calendar is to blame. In short, Tom Cruise is a busy guy, and soon he'll be promoting Top Gun: Maverick ahead of the film's July 2 release. That campaign is going to take time and careful planning and will push the star out of the Mission: Impossible loop for a brief period of time. Once the PR blitz for Maverick is complete, Cruise will return to the land of spies and super dangerous stunts.

Mission: Impossible helmer Chris McQuarrie recently offered an update for the franchise's seventh installment via Instagram, saying that the team has now wrapped a successful shoot in the Middle East and are traveling back to London where a few "finishing touches" will be applied to the project.

Mission: Impossible 7 is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 19.2021, provided that Covid-19 doesn't get in the way. Obviously, everything is subject to change as vaccines continue to roll out and venues that are meant to house large groups of people experience policy changes. Will we all feel safe about returning to theaters before the end of 2021? I certainly hope so, as at this point I do miss going to the theater a great deal. Be sure to keep your fingers crossed, mask up, and listen for updates as to when you can expect your shots to combat the ongoing pandemic. Cheers, everybody!
