Mission: Impossible, Mission: Impossible 7, Tom Cruise, CinemaCon, Babylon, Dungeons and Dragons, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1

It’s Paramount Pictures’ turn to heat things up at CinemaCon in Las Vegas and they got a big assist from Tom Cruise himself revealing the official title for the upcoming Mission: Impossible sequel and we also got a first look at the film’s trailer!

The official title of the next Mission: Impossible will be Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1. Tom Cruise delivered the news with a video greeting for the audience as he sat on top of a plane that looked like an old-school crop-duster. BTW, in true Tom Cruise fashion, he did this while the plane was in the air, proving why he’s one of the most dedicated movie stars working in the business.

We also got a glimpse at the film’s trailer and it looks pretty insane. Henry Czerny is back as Kitteridge and it looks like the globe-trotting on this one is going to put some of the previous ones to shame. There is desert footage in a sandstorm, car chases through cities, and Tom Cruise running on top of trains! Tom is also in a car chase driving an old school Mini Cooper. Hayley Atwell’s character is also emphasized and the trailer ended with Tom Cruise performing a major free fall from a motorcycle off of a cliff. This one looks like it’s definitely going to be worth the wait.

Paramount Pictures also teased Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. There wasn’t a lot to go on but there was some battle footage showcased with Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Rege Jean Page emphasized in the sizzle reel. A trailer could be dropping soon because the footage did look pretty complete.

We got a look at Damien Chazelle’s highly-anticipated love letter to Hollywood, Babylon, starring Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie. It looks like it’s about the end of the silent movie era and how dissolute and drug-fueled the silent era actually was. It looks like Brad Pitt is playing a director or actor in the film and it looks like they’re going with a hard R-rating for this one to capture the chaos of the era. There are a lot of drugs, booze, and sex on display. Margot Robbie appears to be playing silent film queen Clara Bow, whose 1927 movie popularized the phrase “It Girl” and it looks like it charts how her character goes from being a star in the silent era to a nobody as the silent era ends. Could be an Oscar contender!

The sizzle reel also contained footage from Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and the look of the Transformers is more in line with the Bumblebee spinoff, which was the best received by critics of the franchise. It’s not a total departure from the look that Michael Bay established but I’d say more middle of the road than a total shift. The energy of the Bay movies is there but it seems much more character-driven.

We also learned that the A Quiet Place prequel coming out next year will be called A Quiet Place: Day One.

What are YOUR thoughts on the reveals from the Paramount Pictures presentation at CinemaCon? A screening of Top Gun: Maverick will also be taking place and while reviews are embargoed, social media reactions will be fair game so check back later for our quick take on the film!
