Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo are joining the Vacation reboot

While it seemed to be a natural decision, it now is looking pretty certain that the reboot of NATIONAL LAMPOON’S VACATION will feature appearances from Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo. Ever since the new film was announced with Ed Helms as a grown up Rusty, I have been holding out hope they would treat it as a true sequel to the classic films and get the original Griswolds back into the plot.

The new VACATION will follow grown-up son Rusty (Helms), who now has his own family misadventures on the road, which includes making a pit stop to see his mom and dad.

Variety reports that the two actors are “in talks” to reprise their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold for the new VACATION and that the roles are pretty much just cameos. Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Chase played the Griswolds on the big screen most recently in the underrated VEGAS VACATION as well as on the small screen in a series of Old Navy commercials. D’Angelo has steadily worked on TV while Chevy Chase co-stars on NBC’s COMMUNITY, a role he has burned major bridges on with bizarre behind the scenes rants.

I am all for a new VACATION movie as long as screenwriting directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (HORRIBLE BOSSES) keep the tone in line with the National Lampoon films.
