Kevin Costner, Woody Harrelson hunt Bonnie & Clyde in The Highwaymen trailer

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Everyone knows about Bonnie & Clyde, the two love birds who were hailed as rebels as they robbed banks across America and gunned down anyone who got in their way. While movies and TV shows have explored and romanticized their relationship and crimes there’s not been much told about the people who worked to bring them down, and the new Netflix movie THE HIGHWAYMEN finds Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson loading up to bring the outlaws to justice. The film from John Lee Hancock (THE BLIND SIDE, THE FOUNDER) just got its first trailer, and anyone who feels like this movie sounds a lot like the Costner classic THE UNTOUCHABLES, well, that’s a reasonable assessment.

While this movie doesn’t look like it will be a classic like the 1987 film with Costner and Robert De Niro, the trailer does tease an entertaining, gripping thriller that shows a different side of an often told tale. Costner and Harrelson seem to have a great bond, and frankly, it just looks like a good time. Some solid period-set action, an interesting subject, a great supporting cast (Kathy Bates, Kim Dickens) and some reliable one-liners to remind us there will be some funny bits between the gunfire. Hey, it's a Netflix movie; what more do you need?

Here’s the synopsis:

The outlaws made headlines. The lawmen made history. From director John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side), THE HIGHWAYMEN follows the untold true story of the legendary detectives who brought down Bonnie and Clyde. When the full force of the FBI and the latest forensic technology aren’t enough to capture the nation’s most notorious criminals, two former Texas Rangers (Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson) must rely on their gut instincts and old school skills to get the job done.

The movie will premiere at South By Southwest on March 10 before hitting select theaters March 15, and then going onto Netflix March 29.
