It looks like Russell Crowe will in fact step into Brad Pitt’s vacated place in STATE OF PLAY, according to Yahoo, who report that he is now in final negotiations for the role. Wow, I consider Russell Crowe to be one of the coolest people and best actors in the world right now, but surprisingly I find myself extremely disappointed in how this whole thing has turned out. There is, after all, only one Brad Pitt; I love that guy like a fat kid loves cake. As we know, Pitt dropped out last week, reportedly due to script concerns, derailing what was going to be the glorious FIGHT CLUB reunion of awesome with Edward Norton. Kevin MacDonald (THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND) will be directing the film, based on the British miniseries about a political consultant-turned-journalist (Crowe) who heads a newspaper’s murder investigation involving a fast-rising politician (Norton). Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman and Robin Wright Penn round out the cast. And yeah, I know I said I was disappointed, but I can get behind any film role Crowe takes, which doesn’t involve him sitting there and drinking wine for 2 hours.
