Disney+ is testing out a Group Watch feature in Canada

Disney+, The Simpsons, The Mandalorian, Frozen

With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing most of us to remain at home, we've seen more than a few streaming services roll out some form of watch party feature, and it would seem that Disney+ is next.

The streaming service is currently testing out a feature known as GroupWatch in Canada for Disney+ subscribers on smartphones, TVs, and computers, but they plan on rolling out the feature in other markets this fall. So long as all participants are Disney+ subscribers, GroupWatch will allow you to stream any movie or TV show on the service with up to six other people. An icon will appear next to the Add to Watchlist and Download buttons on a title's page that will bring you to a lobby where you can add more viewers and start the stream.

Disney+, GroupWatch

However, one snag is that GroupWatch doesn't support all titles across countries, which is understandable when considering content limitations, but it's still a bummer. Anyone you invite to GroupWatch will be notified if they're not able to join that GroupWatch due to cross country or content limitations. Anyone in the GroupWatch will be able to control the viewing. Participants can pause, play, fast forward, or rewind the content for everyone in the group, but you'll always be able to see who is controlling the experience.
