Disney is trying to bring Drew Struzan out of retirement to create posters for Star Wars: Episode VII

Do you remember the old days when movie posters were works of art and not Photoshop monstrosities? ah, memories. One of the great poster artists of all time is Drew Struzan. Even if you don’t know the name, you would recognize his iconic posters for STAR WARS, INDIANA JONES, and HARRY POTTER films, to name a few.

Struzan announced his retirement back in 2008, but has still produced pieces of art here and there. With the recent announcement of the new STAR WARS trilogy over at Disney, it remained to be seen whether they would be forging a new direction for the franchise or if they were going to hold true to the series’ roots. It looks like Disney doesn’t want to take any chances and will be classing it up by trying to get Struzan to produce the posters for the new films, starting with STAR WARS: EPISODE VII.

Struzan said he has already been contacted and has not ruled a return out: “If the opportunity arises, it will be a real temptation. But it’s going to have to be a real temptation to get me away from my wife and my little grandkids and my family. Away from the green trees and the blue skies for a change instead of just locked in the studio. But, you know, never say never. All things are possible.”

While many complain that the prequel trilogy was not worthy of the STAR WARS franchise, the posters are still works of art. It should be a no-brainer for Disney to pay Struzan whatever it takes to produce three more gorgeous one-sheets. It won’t feel like classic STAR WARS without him.
