Donnie Darko to receive 15-year anniversary re-release in theaters!

Oh man, this brings me back. DONNIE DARKO was high school Damion's shit, and having re-watched it somewhat recently, I have to say it definitely holds up. It's beautiful to look at, the performances are great across the board (including a pre-fame asshole Seth Rogen playing a bully), and I dug the David Lynch-lite vibe of the whole thing. Hell, I even enjoyed director Richard Kelly's follow-up SOUTHLAND TALES!

So it's awesome to hear that Kelly himself has supervised a recent 4K transfer of the film, to be re-released in theaters in select cities for its fifteen-year anniversary. Here's a trailer for the restoration:

In 30 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, 12 seconds, DONNIE DARKO's 4K restoration - both the Theatrical Cut and the Director's Cut - will start to be released in select theaters across the country. Here's a complete list of the showings:

Extra Tidbit: The scene where Donnie and his friends shoot beer bottles and talk about Smurfs was supposed to be Donnie shooting stuffed Smurf toys - they even got permission from the creator. However, on the day of shooting, they couldn't find any, so they shot the aforementioned beer bottles instead.
