Epic Infinity War, Fortnite crossover will allow players to become Thanos

The most talked-about movie around is AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, and the most talked-about video game is easily the highly-addictive Fortnite. Naturally, it makes sense to put the two together for one amazing crossover event that should have gamers of all varieties losing their minds. Such an event is actually happening, and very soon players can jump into the world of Fortnite for an epic match with the almighty Infinity Gauntlet in play.

EW has the exclusive that Epic Games and Marvel have partnered up for this limited time event that puts a spin on the usual "Battle Royale" format of the game. The “Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup” mode for the game begins tomorrow, May 8, and will allow 100 players to drop into the game, allowing them to hunt and find the Infinity Gauntlet in the game, all until one last person is left standing. Upon finding it, they will turn into Thanos and wield the power of all six Infinity Stones, and they can do whatever they please as the Mad Titan. I also assume all characters killed by Thanos will turn to ash.

Here's a first look image!

INFINITY WAR directors Joe and Anthony Russo talked about how big of fans they are of the game, and how they would play it during breaks from editing the movie.

Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games. And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers–Fortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald [Mustard, the creative director of Epic Games].

Mustard then recalled how crazy it was to get a call from Joe, and how they geeked out over their love for each other's stuff.

Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas. It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about. About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started.

I've played Fortnite a few times, but I pale in comparison to the more hardcore gamers on there. Still, come tomorrow I will be on searching for the Gauntlet and killing all the fools who get in my way. Okay, in all honesty, I'm going to be the first one down. At least I tried.
