Guillermo del Toro brings the darkness back to Disney with Haunted Mansion

Guillermo del Toro made a huge announcement at Comic-Con today. Well, he’s definitely not going back to THE HOBBIT, but he will be teaming up with Disney to write and produce on HAUNTED MANSION.

del Toro surprised the fans and had this to say on the subject, “Dark imagery is an integral part of the Walt Disney legacy. After all, Disney himself was the father of some really chilling moments and characters – think Chernabog from Fantasia or Maleficent as the Dragon or the Evil Queen in Snow White. I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of my own adaptation of the original theme park attraction Walt envisioned and that remains- for me- the most desirable piece of real estate in the whole world!”

Wow. Think of the possibilities with this one!

Rich Ross, chairman of Walt Disney Studios talked about the partnership, “Millions of people from around the world visit The Haunted Mansion each year, but no one has ever had a tour guide like Guillermo del Toro. Guillermo is one of the most gifted and innovative filmmakers working today and he is going to take audiences on a visually-thrilling journey like they’ve never experienced before.”

Another project that del Toro is showing off at Comic-Con is DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK which he is producing. Tomorrow in Hall H, there will be a panel for the film with del Toro and director Troy Nixey. The first footage of the film will be shown during the panel.

No details yet on whether Eddie Murphy will be back. Actually, they probably won’t let him back.
