I’ve been curious about the two Jeff Buckley biopics that are currently in the pipeline. Today, we finally get news on both of them, and video evidence of one of the stars vocal stylings.
Penn Badgley, star of GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY, did an unannounced performance for an audience during a concert for Ryan Jarman of British band the Cribs. The singer did mention that there would be “special guests” but did not say who. Someone in the audience captured the moment with their phone camera. Badgley did a cover of a cover– Nina Simone’s “Lilac Wine”, which Buckley covered as well. The actor actually does a rather decent job and has a nice voice. You can check that video out below. The film is currently in post-production.
The second Buckley film, MYSTERY WHITE BOY from director Jake Scott has SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK star Reeve Carney as the soulful crooner. The update here is that Patricia Arquette will play Buckley’s mother Mary Guibert, “who had a key role in kick-starting her son’s career when she convinced him to perform in a 1991 tribute concert to his father Tim Buckley.” I’m a little more excited for this one.
