Jesse Eisenberg and Naomi Watts eyeing director Noah Baumbach’s indie drama While We’re Young

Back in December, director Noah Baumbach’s next film, WHILE WE’RE YOUNG, seemed to have solidified a pretty strong cast for itself, featuring the likes of GREENBERG stars Ben Stiller and Greta Gerwig, as well as James Franco and Cate Blanchett.

Sadly, Gerwig already left the project last year due to scheduling issues, and today the LA Times is reporting that Franco and Blanchett have fallen out as well. But fear not! Baumbach’s old SQUID AND THE WHALE star Jesse Eisenberg and lovely Aussie Naomi Watts are reportedly now in talks to fill in the gap.

The film, about “a 40-ish childless couple that begins feeling alienated from their friends as those friends start to procreate, and strike up an unlikely friendship with a younger couple.” Stiller is the only one currently signed for a role, that of the older male. Watts would presumably portray his wife, while Eisenberg would play one half of the younger couple.

WHILE WE’RE YOUNG was expected to begin filming this summer, though I imagine that scheduling may change if Eisenberg signs for the part, as the actor is supposed to begin filming on Woody Allen’s next project during that same time.
