Kate Mara says plot for The Fantastic Four won’t be based on the comics

Previously Kate Mara said she picked up some Fantastic Four comics after she was cast as Sue Storm in Josh Trank's upcoming reboot, but apparently the director told Mara she shouldn't read them, since the movie won't be based on any of the stories from the comics. The actress revealed this little tidbit of information in a recent interview with Esquire Latinoamérica.

I've never been a fan of comics, I've never actually read one. I was going to for this movie but the director said it wasn't necessary. Well, actually he told us that we shouldn't do it because the plot won't be based on any history of anything already published. So I chose to follow his instructions. The one fact is I am a fan of comic book movies, so it's very exciting to be part of a movie like this.

Kate Mara was also asked if it's a big responsibility being the new Invisible Woman.

I don't feel more responsibility with this role that I've felt with others. I understand that there are many fans of Fantastic Four and I guess they expect a lot from me, but I prefer not to be pressured by that. We are also trying to create a new way of seeing these superheroes, I'm focusing on making her (Susan Storm) as real as possible.

It's not so much fans expect a lot from the actors and actresses appearing in a comic book movie, but the film itself, and right now many are bracing for the worst with THE FANTASTIC FOUR. While I'm not pleased with certain things about the project, I'm still going to give it a chance. The reboot will likely be quite different compared to the first two movies, but will it be so different it will turn off fans of the comics? We'll have to wait and see.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR will be in theaters on June 19, 2015.
