New concept art peeks at Marvel’s What If? animated show and Hawkeye series!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

At midnight today people all over the world started streaming Disney + with the vast majority jumping right into The Mandalorian, no doubt (I mean, I did). But, beyond the bevy of movies, cartoons, documentaries and series, there's other good nuggets to unearth, chief among them the "Expanding The Universe" special that reveals a ton of upcoming Marvel-themed goodies that are coming to the streaming service. We already reported on the peeks at Falcon and The Winter Soldier costume concept art, but there's much more to behold, including actual footage and concept art for their first animated series, What If? and some cool concept art for the live-action Hawkeye series.

For What If? we got a ton of concept art and footage (you'll have to check out the special for the footage), which features a first look at "Captain Carter" AKA Peggy Carter (voiced by original star Hayley Atwell) as the super soldier serumed hero instead of Steve Rogers. However, don't count out the 90 LB weakling, as he also makes an appearance, this time flying a WWII era Iron Man-style suit. For those unaware, What If? is based on the long-running Marvel series that takes an existing comic/character/storyline and changes just one thing to alter it. It's always been a fun series and for the animated show, they will use the same concept and apply it to each of their films, beginning with CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER (yeah, not you, Captain Marvel). Take a look at some of the art for the initial episode below.

We also got a tease at other upcoming episodes (although not specifically named for which film they've covering exactly), which includes a look at Zombie Cap (and Bucky Barnes as The Winter Soldier) a black Star-Lord (any guesses who it may be?) and a look at The Watcher, who will be voiced by Jeffrey Wright.

In additon to the animated goods, we also got a peek at some concept art and designs for the Hawkeye series, which is slated to star Jeremy Renner in the titular role and Hailee Steinfeld as his protege, Kate Bishop. It's the first look at Bishop's costume (in concept art form), which looks comics accurate, thankfully. Sadly, it's unclear if this show is still a go or not, as Steinfeld expressed doubt recently after some legal issues arose with Renner in his personal life. Hopefully, Disney can move forward without letting custody disputes and legal battles on personal matters for their stars hinder progress, but you just never know how it will all shake out.

What If? and Hawkeye are a long way away, expected to debut sometime in 2021.
