No objection to these trailers for Takashi Miike’s Phoenix Wright

Well, this should quiet the naysayers. A couple of trailers from Takashi Miike’s PHOENIX WRIGHT adaptation have surfaced and if people thought the director of AUDITION and ICHI THE KILLER wasn’t the right man for the job, they’ll soon think differently.

All the characters from the first installment of the Nintendo DS series seem to be represented faithfully here, and they’ve even managed to recreate the ridiculous, over-the-top courtroom style. The PHOENIX WRIGHT series is so whimsicial and silly yet there are some really dark parts to it- you are trying to solve murders, after all- and the trailer seems to reflect that perfectly.

Even without understanding a single word (besides “Objection!”) I’m definitely sold. I’d say that Miike needs this to bounce back after NINJA KIDS but 13 ASSASSINS means he doesn’t owe anyone anything for the rest of his life. Plus, the guy probably has another dozen movies on the way- is there a more prolific director currently living?

PHOENIX WRIGHT: ACE ATTORNEY hits Japan on February 11th, 2012. I know what movie I want to see at the New York Asian Film Festival this summer!
