Variety is reporting that THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and PROMETHEUS actress Noomi Rapace is in talks to co-star alongside Will Smith and Joel Edgerton in David Ayer's BRIGHT.

Max Landis wrote the spec scipt for the project, which has been described as END OF WATCH meets ALIEN NATION, and takes place "in a world where orcs and fairies live among humans." Sources also tell Variety that the story isn't set in present day. Filming for BRIGHT is expected to begin sometime this fall.

Netflix acquired the film back in March in a $90 million deal, with $3 million of that going to Landis, and last month Ayer explained why the streaming service is the perfect home for the fantasy cop thriller.

I was after the creative freedom, the ability to make really hard-R-rated movies with vision and voice and see them play in the on-demand world. You do that as a theatrical release, and you’d better hit a bull’s-eye, some cultural zeitgeist. Otherwise it’s a gamble for studios; it’s easier for them to justify $200M budgets for tentpoles than $40M to $90M for the movies I like to make.

Rapace has several movies set to open this year, including Tommy Wirkola‘s WHAT HAPPENED TO MONDAY? and Michael Apted's UNLOCKED, while Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD will arrive in theaters on August 5, 2016.
