Robert Downey Jr. to produce rehab drama for Showtime

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Some interesting TV news tonight as it has been reported that Showtime is developing a drama focusing on a 1980s rehab community; Robert Downey Jr. is on board to produce. ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK and JUSTIFIED writer Gary Lennon will write the untitled drama from Downey Jr. and Susan Downey’s production banner Team Downey.

The rehab community is situated in Venice Beach and takes place in 1983 "where drugs and alcohol have always been part of the local culture". Downey is no stranger to the drugs scene which has been well documented over the years. He has spent time in the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison to eventually achieve sobriety.

We can all be grateful that the man turned his life around only to become one of the biggest stars in the world and inspiration to so many. I trust this TV show will have a lot of true-to-life situations and drama from his storied past and should make for some great viewing.

Here he is talking about working on HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS with Jodie Foster, a turning point for him.
