I personally don’t care much for Mitch Albom. Whether it’s his sappy books (“Tuesdays with Morrie”), his appearances on “The Sports Reporters,” or his music (yes, he sings vocals in a band). I may not dig him but it seems he can count Adam Sandler among his fans. Sandler and Columbia Pictures have bought an untitled pitch from Albom that is described as a “comedy with emotional elements set in the world of baseball.” Yeah, it’s that “emotional elements” thing that gets me. Maybe Albom should leave the hokey sentimentalism behind and just write a story for once. Sandler has his next two projects set – YOU DON’T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN and BEDTIME STORIES – so Albom’s movie could be some time off. He’ll first have to write the script and then allow for the project to be rewritten to include more “dippity-doo” jokes. Sandler can be seen next in I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY, which hits theaters next month.
