Although Thor: Love and Thunder is the fourth installment of the Thor franchise, it seems as though it might be following in the footsteps of Captain America: Civil War and feature an ensemble cast with an Avengers 5 feel. The sequel will of course feature Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and he'll be joined by Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Taika Waititi as Korg, Jamie Alexander as Lady Sif, and Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher.

While speaking with The Playlist, Tessa Thompson said that she'll be heading to Australia to start shooting Thor: Love and Thunder early next year, but Thompson also teased that the film could feature more Marvel Cinematic Universe characters than have been announced.

Yeah. I can tease that she’s definitely King of New Asgard when we find her. And as was the case in the last four, I would say that she’s a part of an adventure that involved Thor, in the sense that it’s called “Thor: Love and Thunder.” And I’d say there’s some cool stuff going on. We have some new characters; we have some folks potentially from other pockets of the MCU. And then we have some folks, maybe, that we’ve seen before.

As other upcoming MCU movies seem to be embracing a more eclectic selection of Marvel characters, it shouldn't come as a big surprise that Thor: Love and Thunder would be following suit. It's also important to note that Thor: Love and Thunder will be released after Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which as we know, will be opening up the MCU in some interesting ways. Thor: Love and Thunder is slated to hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
